Interlocking Cable Aluminum Strip VS Aluminum Strip Roll

06.15.2026

Ordinary aluminum strip is a flat, smooth aluminum coil, emphasizing versatility and low cost, covering the entire range of alloys from 1-series to 6-series.

Interlocking cable aluminum strip is pre-rolled into a one-piece S-shaped corrugated clip section. During construction, the curved surfaces of the aluminum strip interlock, forming a sealed, movable annular armored protective layer, eliminating the need for adhesive tape overlaps or welding fixation.

5154 aluminum alloy strip for cable armor is a 5-series rust-resistant aluminum alloy with medium magnesium content. 5154A is an improved grade with optimized impurity ratios. It is currently the standard aluminum material for interlocking armor of high and low voltage power cables, photovoltaic cables, and rail transit cables, and its performance is fully compatible with interlocking processes:

1. Mechanical compatibility: In conventional H22 processing state, the tensile strength is ≥260MPa, the yield strength is moderate, and the elongation is ≥12%. Compared to 5052, it has higher hardness and stronger fatigue resistance. After the aluminum strip edges are stamped and snapped, repeated bending and laying will not cause chipping or cracking, and the interlocking gap remains constant;

2. Corrosion resistance advantages: With a higher magnesium content than 5052, it forms a dense oxide protective film, suitable for underground direct burial, coastal salt spray, and humid and corrosive conditions in chemical plant areas. The service life of the armor layer is increased by more than 30% compared to 5052;

3. Process Characteristics: 5154A features an optimized grain structure, resulting in smoother interlocking and reducing the likelihood of jamming during high-speed winding machine production. It also possesses low eddy current characteristics, reducing cable power transmission energy consumption and meeting national standards for power armor energy consumption.

4. Grade Differentiation: 5052 is primarily used for interlocking armoring of low-voltage civilian cables (low cost); 5154/5154A is specifically designed for high-voltage cables, outdoor special cables, and long-distance laying cables (high performance).

Specifications

International Thickness Range: Globally compliant thickness 0.40mm—2.0mm, suitable for large-diameter high-voltage submarine cables and photovoltaic grid-connected cables in Europe and America; international tolerances comply with ASTM precision grade ±0.02mm to avoid interlocking misalignment in overseas high-speed winding machines; the main export thicknesses for 5154/5154A aluminum strip are: 0.50mm, 0.65mm, 0.80mm, 1.00mm, and 1.20mm.

International Standard Width: Compatible with overseas ACWU, SWA, and AWA armored cable systems. Universal inch-modified national standard widths: 22mm, 28mm, 36mm, 44mm, 56mm, 70mm, suitable for overseas 10-300mm full-diameter power cables.

Internationally Standard Clip Specifications: The depth of the raised and recessed slots and the bending angle are standardized to the IEC standard angle of 58°, ensuring interchangeability among global manufacturers' clips. For coastal and overseas projects, the 5154A interlocking aluminum strip slots undergo passivation and precision machining, meeting overseas third-party salt spray corrosion testing standards and preventing corrosion cracking at the interlocking edges.

Alloy Condition and International Grade: Export-restricted processed condition H22/H14. All series can be issued with ASTM material certificates and EU RoHS environmental reports. Mandatory requirements for overseas high-voltage, buried, and coastal projects: AA5154/AA5154A material must be used; the use of low-grade armored aluminum material AA5052 is prohibited.

Additional export specifications: International orders must have standardized roll diameter and weight, with a standard 508mm international paper core for compatibility with overseas fully automatic unwinding equipment; the surface must be uniformly oil-free, finely rolled, and coated for protection, meeting the requirements of humid sea freight storage conditions and adapting to cross-border sea freight delivery standards.
